Back in 1999, I moved to the Lehigh Valley and attended my first Musikfest as a resident. There, under the Volksplatz tent, I saw them for the first time: Red Elvises. They were a four-piece surf band from Russia (Ukraine, actually) who had moved to California and played surf music mixed with traditional Slavic melodies and tongue-in-cheek lyrics. They were so much fun! I still enjoy listening to their 1997 album, Surfing In Siberia. Though 3/4 of the original members left the group, their leader Igor is still touring as Igor and Red Elvises. They’re not the same, but they still are a fun band.
