One of the bands that gets lumped in with the lounge/swing revival of the 1990s is Combustible Edison. Their 1994 release I, Swinger defies such simple classification. Equal parts lounge, exotica and electronica, I prefer to group them in the Space Age Bachelor Pad genre of Tiki music. Their connections to Esquivel include the soundtrack to the film Four Rooms and the fact that keyboardist Brother Cleve spent time with the great bandleader in his native Mexico before he passed. No matter what you call them, Combustible Edison is a group that’s fun to listen to and harkens back to the heyday of MCM Tiki.
