Last week I introduced you to the first lesser-known surf band I discovered. Today I bring you the second. The Halibuts were a group founded by guitarist/bassist Pete Curry in the mid-1980s, who later went on to play bass for Los Straitjackets, my favorite surf band. I picked up their 1996 album, Life On The Bottom, at an independent record star in Chicago. I recall listening to this disc through headphones at the store’s listening bar (remember those?) and being blown away by the melodic instrumental surf tunes. I bought the album right away!
