Day 329. A Charlie Brown Christmas

Here’s another Christmas gift that keeps on giving. My buddy Bruce, with whom I share a passion for music mixes in Dolby 5.1 surround sound, told me that A Charlie Brown Christmas was being released this holiday season as a special edition. I have always loved this soundtrack album from the year of my birth, so I asked Santa for it. Much to my joy, this 5-disc set came with a Blu-ray disc featuring the album in a Dolby Atmos mix, which has opened up a whole new world for me. I’m now working on upgrading my home theatre to catch up to this 7.2 surround sound technology. Stay tuned…

FIVE DISCS? I mean, how is this possible? I adore Guaraldi's work on this but how many alternate takes for a 25-minute animated special can there be? Does it sweeten the pot with selections from lesser-known specials like Arbor Day and He's Your Dog? How do they fill out this set?

There is one CD of the original mix and a new stereo mix, 3 discs of different recording sessions/takes, which included 4 different iterations of the trio and 2 different children’s choirs, and 1 Blu-ray Disc with the Dolby Atmos mix and 2 new stereo mixes. It’s a lot of stuff, and the booklet describes each of the takes in detail. A true labor of love!
