Here is one of the drink recipes I tried from Beachbum Berry’s Sippin’ Safari book. The Aloha Cocktail was created by Hank Riddle while he was working for Don The Beachcomber’s in Palm Springs CA. Riddle was of Filipino descent, like many of the Tiki bartenders of the MCM era. He came up with this drink for a cocktail competition in 1970. I was drawn to this libation because of the Cherry Kijafa, which is a cherry wine/liqueur that my grandparents loved to drink. Fortunately I was able to find it! My wife thinks this drink tastes like cough syrup, but I find it to be a nice balance of sweet, sour…and strong. Okole maluna!
