Glad to be here!

Long time tikiphile and became intrigued with the genre after living in Hawaii for a while. I miss Tiki magazine and Tiki Central. This forum seems like a good replacement. Named my Mini Bull Terrier “Tiki.” I am also a musician who is working on a surf/exotica type album hoping to release it sometime next year. Stay tuned for some forthcoming snippets of the album. Thanks to everyone here for keeping Tiki alive!

Welcome, and glad you found this forum. I'm another newbie here and am very happy with it. Small, but some great content and write-ups, and very friendly members. I do miss the size of TC, but this is the only alternative I found that felt welcoming.

If you don't mind saying, where'd you live in HI? I grew up there thus my aesthetic preferences probably lean more to Hawaiiana with a touch of late 70s Waikiki and 80s Kamaaina ephemera.

I dig exotica and surf so I'm looking forward to hearing about your album progress.

Welcome!

We are very happy you found us! A lot of us are missing Tiki Central, that community will be difficult to replace. The admin here does not advertise this forum, so the people that discover it have done a search, or possibly heard from a current member. The active users here are indeed very friendly, open to discussions, and probably are the type of folks you wouldn't mind pulling up a bar stool next to and drinking a Mai Tai with.

I am also very interested in hearing more about your album. Is it a solo endeavor?

Thanks again for joining our small (but growing!) Tiki community!

Mahalo, and yes it will be a solo effort. I have a single out that was a collaborative project with another guy on all the steaming platforms called Runnin’ So Long by Freedom 57. Due to be released on 9/9/21, is a 4 song EP called Sneak Peek, which is a tribute to my college band which had some original tunes that I rearranged and recorded. Next up, is my endeavor in the world of surf and exotica. It will be under a different name than Freedom 57 and I will preview much of it here. Sorry for the long post.

I was stationed there with the Marine Corps 1989-1991. I lived on the Windward side in a town called Kaaawa.

Kaaawa is a pretty stretch of the Kam Highway for sure. Dug my first imu to cook a pig just around the corner at the park & campground with the Boy Scouts. Not sure how legal that was, but whatevahs.

I know the park. I was in Makaua Village condos right next to the Crouching Lion restaurant. Beautiful place!
