PDXotica or something else?

Aloha from Portland, OR. Some of you may know that the Portland Tiki Kon set sail on its final voyage last year. A week or so ago an intrepid couple from Seattle organized the first Beachcomber Bash in Ocean Shores, WA, which is about equidistant between Seattle and Portland. It was a fun weekend and I hope they can keep it going. Meanwhile, I am organizing a new convention in Portland for August 15-17, 2025. Our working name thus far has been PDXotica, but I have had some pushback from some folks asking if it is a strippers convention or something similar. Thus, I pose to each of you on the forum, how do you feel about the name, PDXotica? We will have a Friday night Luau and a Saturday night burlesque show. In the afternoon on Friday and Saturday there will be motor coaches to take attendees to three home bars and one commercial outlet each day. The event will be limited to 400 attendees, and your ticket price will include airport transfer, a visit to 6 home bars, 2 commercial venues, the luau, the burlesque night, bands, an event tiki mug, voting privileges to our Top Chef style cocktail competition, the marketplace, a silent auction, and more!

If PDXotica doesn't float your rum, then what suggestions would you have for an event name? My second choice right now is Stump Town Hukilau.

The event sounds awesome! That has to be a monumental task organizing a convention.

I am sure some of our members can come up with something creative!

Does the PD or the PDX stand for something? It makes me think of a file type, but if it has some sort of regional significance, it could be great.

PDX is the airport code for Portland International, and yeah, many folks around here call Portland, PDX, or Stump Town, or P-Town, or Bridge Town, or Timber Town. My biggest worry is that the name might evoke some sort of Porn connection or strip club name.

Cool. Airport codes are always nifty ways to refer to a region. Makes the locals feel like they are insiders on the operation. But I can see porn connotation.

Maybe it would be insulated a little bit if you spelled it PDeXotica? Closer to the name of the music genre?
