If anyone is in the greater Sacramento area, a new tiki bar opened up over in the college town of Davis.
Immediate interior impressions: fantastic nautical/deserted island feel that also feels a mix of modern/college bar. Wasn't able to fully explore due to a birthday party in the back (done up in a Pirates of the Caribbean/ Black Sails jail area). But there's a decent-sized ship that takes up one wall. A place to pose at the captain's wheel. Thatch hut bar and some hut-style tables for groups. Kraken's tentacles wrap up, around, and down the entirety of the place.
The drinks: modernized updates on the classics that, while up there on price, justify themselves by the quality of ingredients. Passion Elixir: tart passionfruit aided with the funk of demerara sugar hides the Lemonhart. The Mai Tai: a more citrusy take on the classic, but is a still familiar taste experience. And finally the Painkiller: a much more dessert-y approach. Thick and creamy due to the ice cream, and much more spiced in flavor overall. The pineapple was more a background assistant to the flavors.
Overall: a welcome addition to the greater Sac area. It's still very new overall, but I have hopes this place can be here a long while. Pics to come later after editing. Mahalo and cheers!
