Well, the contractors are out of the way, and now, the rest of this journey, is ours to complete. We are down to 3 rooms, and our latest project to wrap up, is a drastic makeover to the room that opens out onto the deck outside, and the screen room in the back. Now drenched in palm matting, bamboo poles, and 300 ft. of rope, The Hemmingway Room, gives off an old school, Key West/Havana vibe, centered around a (shhhhh, dont tell anyone) Mexican Equipale mini bar. It features a tiki water fountain display, Frankl furniture, and art work by N Jonas Englund, and Jeff Granito.

We started by adding lots of natural light. We replaced the French doors at the back of the room, that open into the screen room, added 2 windows in the corner, and then another patio door on the west wall, that opens out onto the deck. We then installed a vinyl plank floor, that gives it the look of an old beach shack.

We then trimmed out everything in the room, with burnt wood molding. The wood is the cheapest knot filled,1x4s and 1x6s you can buy at home depot. They have NOT been stained. A quick burn with a torch, some light sanding, add a spray of matte clear coat, and it adds a dramatic, and stunning accent to the room, at a rock bottom cost.

Wanting to have the appearance of a hut, or shack, (but without the hassle of hanging matting from the ceiling) we painted the ceiling, and the walls, a foot down, with a thatch colored paint, then added a burnt, 1x6 rail, around the room, to sperate it from the rest of the wall. The remainder of the walls were given a rough coat of paint, as back round, to fill in the small spaces and openings on the Bac Bac matting. We replaced that nasty old ceiling fan too.

We covered the rest of the walls with Bac Bac matting. Trimmed to size, with a bad ass, rechargeable, electric, scissors, (a tiki project, must have tool) then laid out and sprayed with fire retardant, and finally hung to dry, Once dry, the matting is placed below the burnt railing to cover the rest of the walls.

We covered the seams between the matting panels, with 2.5 inch, split bamboo poles, then trimmed everything with 1 inch Manila rope. On one side of the room, I wired each bamboo pole, with red HD L.E.D. bulbs, to add a fire like glow to that corner of the room.

We added some tiki art by Jeff Granito, then filled the corner space with a Jaguar pattern rug. and vintage, 6 strand, bamboo furniture.

Popsicle stick lamps, quality literature, and a tiki themed fountain feature, round out the rest of the room.

We move the Equipale mini bar, back into place, tikify the canopy with bamboo, rope, and greenery, to highlight a uranium glass display, off to the right side.of the bar.

On the other side of the bar, we installed a small, discreet, entertainment system, run off of a laptop computer filled with tiki media, (This was inspired by the tv, behind the bar, at Frankies Tiki Room, in Vegas.) along with more uranium glass. We then finish with carved, wooden, trivets, around the perimeter of the room, just below the ceiling.

The Hemmingway Room. A tranquil location, for a devastating cocktail.

That leaves 2 rooms left, with a Memorial day deadline. Next up................

The Wayneoasis.

Aloha!

Sir, I am jealous of your carpenter skills, the available space you have to work with, and probably your wife for allowing you to "Tiki-Fi" your home. I bow down to you. The space looks amazing!

Now that our project is finished here at The Rapa Nui Ranch, it was time to order some sweet swag.
The Hemingway room, is our indoor bar, for when the Hoosier winter temps, make it much less fun to hang out in the Haole Hut, or Heathen Springs.
With fall quickly approaching, we decided to make this, our first piece of Rapa Nui Ranch apparel.
Hats off to ModernDrunkard.com for hooking us up with this tasty, back, and front pocket, shirt design.
