Here at The Rapa Nui Ranch, indirect L.E.D. lighting plays a big role, in setting the vibe, and atmosphere in each of the rooms.
When we started this project, the normal L.E.D. lighting strip looked something like this...

....bulbs every few inches, solid, or color changing, cuttable every foot or so. It was the industry standard.

Flash 5 years later, and as we finish up our whole house tiki makeover, theres a new kid in town.
C.O.B. (chip on board) L.E.D. lighting, has turned things up a notch or five. It has an extremely low profile at 10mm wide, and 1.9mm tall.
It can easily be hidden behind any kind of molding, edge, or ledge. It can also be cut to easily fit almost any application with cut lines every 2 inches.

For our needs, we glued the strip to the top edge of some furring strips 3/8ths thick.

With 840 l.e.d.s per meter, the lights and color are bright and vivid, even in bright sunlight.

At night, the intensity and glow, transforms the feel of the room.

It comes with a remote for over 20 different colors, plus several novelty settings like fade, flash, and dimmable.
Lights, controller, remote, and power block, come in at right around 85 bucks, for a 16 ft. run, as seen in picture.

I wish these had been around when we started, but Im glad they showed up before we finished. This ended up being the perfect solution for what I was wanting to do
with our living room wall.
If your looking to set the mood in your tiki bar. C.O.B. lighting strips, will do the job and then some, for a reasonable price.

Technology is making the lighting aspect easier to manage. Thank you for posting this info!

OH! I've had some applications that called for lighting but the existing LED options gave disappointing results. EL wire looked to be a viable alternative, but EL as I understand it, is either on or off with no ability to vary its brightness. C.O.B. could very well be the tech I am looking for. Thank you for posting! I will investigate further!
